As you catch a glimpse of the gorgeous Scottish actress, Karen Gillan, it is difficult to imagine her as anyone else, but the character that she portrays on Doctor Who, Amy Pond. The ease with which Karen seems to float into this character, and adapt to her nuances, makes it seem that she was born to play the role of Amy Pond.
In a recent interview, the actress talked about her role on the show and the various experiences that she has had during her stint so far. Surprisingly, Karen did not watch Doctor Who while growing up, even though she had heard a lot about it.
The first time that she watched the show was in 2005, after which she began to love everything about it. The actress reveals that her favorite character on the show is that of Rose, whom she related to as a young girl.
As for her association with the mastermind behind each of the show’s episodes, Steven Moffat, Karen seems to be completely in awe of him. She talks about how honored she feels each time she had to deliver lines written by him, saying that he leaves her surprised with each twist and turn that he incorporates into the show’s storyline. Continuing her praise for Steve, Karen says that she wonders what his brain is made of and thinks that he is a borderline genius.
Well, I’m sure that anyone who has watched the show would agree with Karen on that! If you are yet to experience the magic that this genius unleashes, you can download some segments of Doctor Who to get a taste of it.
When asked of her favorite Doctor Who episode so far, the actress says that it is the first episode that she worked on, which was ‘The Eleventh Hour’. She says that she loves it because of its tragic quotient, as it follows her character’s journey from being a little girl, to losing faith in humanity and the relationships that she forges.
If you wish to relive the intensity that this episode evoked, you can watch it from our archives right away! As for Karen, we hope to see a lot more of her in the coming year, on Doctor Who!
